Figs 1 & 2. Summer in Madikwe National Park near the border with Botswana. A lion that has had trauma to the eye was observed by the local rangers as doing poorly and loosing weight. The male lion was darted and examined more closely. A large lump of granulation tissue was found coming through the ruptured cornea. The lion had its eye surgically removed [enucleation]. It subsequently is doing very well and back to normal weight and activity in the pride.
