The Dedicated Ophthalmology Referral Practice

The story so far . . .

A Siberian Eagle Owl, named Boris, was referred for cataract surgery by colleague and VOphthal certificate holder Neil Wilson who practices in Falmouth.

Boris came from the aptly named Screech Owl Sanctuary in Cornwall, run by Mr & Mrs Screech who assure us that they did not change their names by deed poll, to the aptly named Eye Vet Clinic in the village of Eye.

Thanks to avian specialist Neil Forbes from the Clock House at Stroud, Boris came through a state of the art general anaesthetic and his behaviour was noticeably altered that same day, once he could see again.

Boris is shown left looking very owl-like and showing cataracts in both eyes. The picture at the bottom is after the operation and clearly shows clear eyes, as well as a rather surprised looking Boris.

The media thought the story was great and Boris hit the world press and television. The Rolf Harris team were a

picture on the actual day as they entered our yard to find 50 vehicles including five camera crews already set up - and they thought they had exclusive rights! They all got their pictures and the day ended happily, thanks to everyone involved. Boris is now paired with Nadyezhda in a captive breeding plan with the aim of wild release of their offspring in due course.

Wedded bliss?
