Dear Friends, colleagues and owners Out-clinics 15 years ago we started running out-clinics away from our hospital on a regular basis. This service has been well received by clients and by practice colleagues who know their clients can be seen nearer home. At out-clinics we carry out medical consultations including BVA/KC Eye Tests. We continue to do all surgery at our hospital in Leominster where we have state-of-the-art facilities for eye surgery, but it is a great benefit to clients to have pre-surgery assessments and post-operative follow ups closer to home. This means that clients have the benefit of attendance nearer to their homes, generally only making one journey to Leominster. We are also doing a little for the planet by reducing the carbon footprint of an out-clinic day, with one journey (one of us) saving 10-15 client journeys. We very much appreciate the hospitality of our long standing out-clinic hosts at St. Georges Veterinary Hospital in Wolverhampton, at the Clock House Veterinary Hospital in Stroud, at the Vale Veterinary Hospital, Stinchcombe, Dursley, and at Zetland Veterinary Hospital in Bristol. We are very pleased to announce a new venture to serve our clients in South Wales: Russell Chandler at Alpha Vets has invited us to run a clinic at his practice in Risca starting this Autumn. Risca will provide a convenient location easily reached from all areas in the M4 corridor including Newport, Cardiff, Bridgend, Swansea and further West. Risca can be accessed from the M4 via J27 or J28 between Newport and Cardiff. Already we see many cases from the Valleys and South Wales. We look forward to developing a long term relationship with Russell and his colleagues as we have with our other out-clinic partners. We will be providing an additional service to our South Wales practices. Initially this clinic will be held monthly starting in October. For all out-clinic enquiries and appointments please continue to make contact directly with our hospital at Leominster on 01568 616616. Our Animal Eye Hospital at Leominster We are now in the 5th year since we moved into these state of the art premises. The one hectare grounds are maturing, providing your clients with a relaxing area to walk their dog or to stretch their legs after a journey. We aim to provide your clients with an excellent all round experience. We are always happy to show visitors round the clinic. We have an open house to any of you who would like to visit if possible give us a call if you know you will be passing or else you could just drop by on the off chance. Although in a rural area, we are easy to find, located off the roundabout on the A49 at the south end of the Leominster by-pass more or less opposite Cadburys factory. We provide full 24 hour 365 day emergency cover so that you, or your clients, or your out of hours services can always reach a veterinary ophthalmologist for case discussion and urgent referral if appropriate. We do not charge a premium for emergencies seen in normal working hours. Digital imaging Ophthalmology is a subject lending itself to photography. We make digital images during many of our consultations. With the image management system in use at EVC (Smartpix Manager from Xequte) it has become relatively easy to send image by email. If you would like us to send you copies of images in the future please email info@eyevetclinic.co.uk. so that we can transfer your email address to our system. We have also just converted to digital recording from the operating microscope and ultrasound scanner. This will provide user friendly resources for client information, for in-house training and for CPD (see below). CPD with the EVC For those with a special interest in ophthalmology, there is an informal Eye Club in the area holding evening meetings on a bimonthly basis. These meetings are very inclusive and should appeal to anyone interested in the subject, regardless of experience or qualifications. Email johnmould@eyevetclinic.co.uk for more information. For others we encourage visits to our clinic from veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses for anything from an hour or two to a week at a time. This can provide an opportunity to see us at work and discuss cases in both clinical and surgical settings. These visits are tailored to the individual and are often but not necessarily in conjunction with certificate studies. We can provide the one to one instruction & advice not possible in many other situations. Do give us a call if you or a member of your staff is interested in arranging a visit. Our first floor includes a large conference room with space to seat 30+. We would be happy to offer evening CPD sessions in the clinic. Our perceived audience would be those GPs within an hours travel from our hospital. We will canvass opinion and keep you all informed. Cataract Surgery We at Eye Veterinary Clinic have always had a special interest in cataract surgery and we have been in the forefront of new developments. Cataract surgery requires training and expertise and we have performed cataract surgery on over 4,000 eyes. It also requires a large capital investment and we have just purchased the latest Bausch and Lomb Millennium phacoemulsification machine which is giving excellent results. Many of our patients are diabetic and we would emphasise that diabetic cataracts often require prompt attention. We would prefer to see your diabetics for assessment as soon as cataracts develop rather than waiting for full medical stabilisation. In the last two decades, cataract surgery has progressed enormously and can be embarked on with a confidence comparable to many other routine procedures. Feel free to discuss your cataract cases at an early stage with the clinicians at our clinic. You will find much of the above and more on www.eyevetclinic.co.uk. We find increasingly that the majority of your referred clients have web access. On their initial telephone call they are directed to our How to Find us page and to get a flavour of the Way We Work.
